“We are very lucky,” said Lupe Alba, owner of KG&R Bookkeeping Solutions, regarding the success of the five-year-old business. If you know Lupe or her partner, Stacey Koehlmoos, their achievement is no fluke. KG&R continues to grow with 100 percent referrals.

“We’re not your typical bookkeeping and accounting firm,” said Alba. “We understand clients don’t like to misplace personal records and private documents so we work out of their office. Clients appreciate this and feel a sense of security since they don’t have to take proprietary information out of their office. Plus we gain a better understanding of clients’ day-to-day operations and get to know them really well, becoming an extension of their team and members of their work family.”

That sense of belonging and the relationships the KG&R team has established is complementary to working in Water Street District with its small-town ambience. “I’m from a small town in Utah so I love the atmosphere of downtown Henderson,” said Alba. Las Vegas native Koehlmoos agrees, adding, “Water Street is like the proverbial Main Street U.S.A. It’s quaint and easy to get to know everyone because of proximity and the various City of Henderson and Water Street District Business Association events and programs. And the city’s Redevelopment Agency always keeps us informed and is available for questions.”

Alba and Koehlmoos met in May 2001 while both were working at the same accounting company. When the firm’s principals split, each went with a different partner. However, they remained friends, and both realized they preferred bookkeeping over the primarily tax work of a larger accounting agency. Subsequently Koehlmoos joined Alba’s start-up in late 2006. Today Koehlmoos is a full equity partner, and KG&R continues to thrive with clients from small businesses to multimillion-dollar companies to non-profit organizations, as well as hosting monthly QuickBooks workshops. The KG&R team also includes a full-time CPA and two part-time staff members.

KG&R Bookkeeping Solutions was named for Alba’s beloved dogs, Kai (Chihuahua/Pomeranian) and Gotti (Chihuahua/Dachshund), and their cousin, Roxy (Pit bull). Alba recalls a client telling her she needed to name her company after something she was passionate about.

Since working in Water Street District, Alba and Koehlmoos have observed positive changes, including street and façade improvements, better regulatory procedures making it easier for businesses to operate, and events like the weekly Farmers Market where they often get lunch.

Alba is active in the Water Street District Business Association. She is chairman of its Membership Committee and an executive board member, and also enjoys being one of the announcers for Water Street parades. Additionally, she and Koehlmoos enjoy frequenting local businesses, shops and restaurants, and help their Tropical Smoothie client at its booth during Super Run.
