For nearly 40 years, many Henderson residents and businesses have trusted their financial needs to Wells Fargo Bank’s Water Street store. The reasons for the bank’s longevity and success are its people and understanding of the community.

“Our people make the difference,” said Morris Jackson, vice president and district manager, Southeast Las Vegas District which covers Water Street District. “No one can match our team and the commitment they have to helping our customers succeed financially and helping local businesses grow. It starts from the beginning where we focus on hiring people who understand the community as well as meeting the needs of our customers.”
The Water Street store has 12 team members. About half, including store manager Jennifer Haas, live in the area, providing extra insight about the needs of local customers. Additionally several employees are bilingual which helps in serving the store’s many Hispanic customers.
Of course, Wells Fargo customers also appreciate the bank’s range of products and services, national reach, community banking philosophy and commitment to helping businesses succeed. In May, the store celebrates Small Business Appreciation Month with various special events, educational opportunities and promotions specifically for small business customers. “Water Street District is a great place to live, work, play and do business,” said Morris of the store which opened in 1973. “The area has such a strong sense of community, and it’s a special place in the larger Las Vegas marketplace. To me, it’s the hometown setting and small-town feel that are my favorites about Water Street. Like Wells Fargo, many of the businesses in the district have been around for years and are well-established in the community.”
That sense of community translates into store and employee involvement in as many community events – street fairs, parades, festivals – as possible. Team members may serve as volunteers and participants, and the stagecoach makes appearances, too. In fact, the stagecoach – drawn by four horses – will be part of this month’s Heritage Days parade.
Morris added the Wells Fargo Water Street store also provides space for $1 per year to the Henderson Chamber Foundation for the Henderson Business Resource Center. The center serves as a small business incubator to provide business support services and resources tailored to young companies. As a result, it enhances an entrepreneurial climate and creates jobs and retains businesses in the Henderson community while diversifying the local economy.
“I chose a career with Wells Fargo because of the way the company treats team members and opportunities for personal and career development,” said Morris who has been with the company for 15 years. “Every day brings a new opportunity and I’ve been here ever since.”
