The Rainbow Club Casino is getting even better. The longtime Water Street favorite has been making a series of improvements to the historic downtown property.
There’s new carpeting, parking lot, marble endcaps for the slot and video poker machine banks, and 48 new high-definition video screens throughout the casino. The screens display videos from around the world, including scenic settings in China, Argentina, Alaska and many other locations, plus Sunday and Monday football. “There’s nothing quite like them anywhere else,” said Robert Dockery, slot manager/casino operations. “Customers really appreciate being able to play their favorite machine while watching their favorite football game or daydreaming of going anywhere else in the world they want.”
While there have been many upgrades, the staff’s warmth and friendliness remains. “Our employees are, perhaps, our biggest strength,” said Kitty Murray, payroll supervisor/casino operations who’s been at the property since 1983. “We have many longtime employees from the area who know our customers by name. It really makes a difference.” There are 144 employees at the Rainbow Club Casino, which is open 24-7.
Murray and Dockery share management responsibilities with Tony McAllister, food and beverage director, who’s been at the casino since 1999. Dockery joined the team in 2004. The trio’s chemistry is apparent and reflects the property’s welcoming atmosphere.
The Rainbow Club Casino is known for its liberal slots and great food at a great value. The restaurant, open from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m., is now called Images and features delicious daily dinner specials, including BBQ baby back ribs, steak and shrimp, pot roast, and prime rib, all under $8. The full menu also offers daily lunch specials and a $1.89 breakfast from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, and $2.29 on the weekends.
There are daily casino promotions and drawings. “There’s always something going on,” said Murray, with Dockery adding the casino hosts events for special occasions such as the NBA Finals, Super Bowl and BCS football games.
“We love being on Water Street with all the people we get to see every day,” said Murray. “We have great multi generational relationships with both customers and employees.”
The Rainbow Club Casino is also the site of one of the City of Henderson’s historic outdoor murals. Created by Henderson artist Ozzy Villate, the colorful art-deco mural is called “Promise” and reflects the city’s history and future.
The building originally opened as a grocery story, and, in 1967, became the Rainbow Club. It had a movie theater, which many long-time Henderson residents still fondly recall. Peppermill Casinos Inc. bought the property in 1984, and it became the Rainbow Club Casino and part of the respected privately-held casino company’s family of six casinos – five with hotels.
