Ginny and Don Bond are defying the odds, and enjoying every minute of it. The once married couple built a successful business together and continues it as good friends since their divorce in 2007. They opened Bond Bookkeeping & Tax in 1993, the year they moved to Southern Nevada from California, and both still enjoy a healthy roster of clients, even with the economic downturn.
“We’re personable and experienced and tailor services to fit clients’ bookkeeping and tax needs,” said Don. “Having our name on the business means a lot to us.”
Ginny and Don are both Enrolled Agents, a designation licensed by the Internal Revenue Service to represent clients during IRS hearings. They operate their own businesses and clients under Bond Bookkeeping & Tax. It truly is a family affair as they are joined by Ginny’s cousin, Laurie Runnion, who is the payroll specialist.
Prior to their Water Street District move in 2007, the Bonds office was on Eastern Ave. in Las Vegas. “We lived in Henderson and, frankly, got tired of the drive,” said Ginny. “Then we had the opportunity to buy this West Pacific Ave. property, so we jumped at the chance to move closer to home and live and work in the same area. Both Don and I really like the old-time, small town atmosphere of downtown Henderson,” she said. “Everything is so close, and everyone is very neighborly.”
The Bond office was one of the historic Henderson Basic Townsite homes constructed in 1942, and was eventually used for commercial purposes. The Bonds have enjoyed remodeling and enlarging it for their needs and personalizing it to their tastes with favorite artwork and other items from different vacations and periods in their lives. They also were able to use one of the City of Henderson Redevelopment Agency programs for façade improvements.
In addition to their bookkeeping and tax business, they recently informally began a business investor club where they investigate and evaluate business opportunities.
When not working, Ginny and Don enjoy playing live poker. Both played in the seniors event of the World Series of Poker in 2004 with Ginny placing in the ladies tourney. She’s proud of the fact she did so well the same year actress Jennifer Tilly won the main event.
