A new website will help residents, business owners and visitors find resources in Water Street District and the surrounding Boulder Highway area. Peter Maksymec launched BoulderHighway.com in mid 2011 to become the “go to search everything directory” and advertising and marketing website to connect businesses, residents and visitors along Boulder Highway, including Water Street District, Lake Las Vegas and Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
“There isn’t a specific resource for this unique and thriving 17-mile stretch that has so much to offer,” he said. “I want people to be able to easily find all the great things along the Boulder Highway Corridor, whether a walking trail, community center, park, casino/hotel/resort, restaurant, organization, museum or business – large, small or home-based. BoulderHighway.com can fill that niche. It’s user friendly and continuing to grow and evolve as more content comes online.” The site also has a section for area news.
Maksymec is very familiar with the location. He previously worked at Nevada Palace for 20 years, with 10 as general manager, and lived nearby so he is familiar with the area and its individual neighborhood characteristics, marketing challenges and opportunities.
He particularly likes the sense of a small town community that Water Street District offers. “It is the center of town with a ‘relaxed busy’ atmosphere, and the recent Water Street road improvements and beautification project has made it even more impressive.”
Maksymec wants to help create the same community feel along Boulder Highway, and wants to become involved with the new Eastside Business Coalition that Henderson’s Redevelopment Agency is helping to form. He’s also a Water Street District Business Association and Henderson Chamber of Commerce member.
Maksymec said BoulderHighway.com is a great targeted and inexpensive marketing tool – starting at $240 annually – for businesses and organizations. They control their content and display pages that are password-protected and can easily make updates. “The site gives small businesses equal footing to compete with larger ones, particularly given their more defined service areas,” he added. “And it will be a great one-stop resource for people who live and work in the service area, and for first-time and return visitors.”
A problem solver by nature, Maksymec has created another helpful tool. After noticing run-off from people watering their lawns, he invented a water-saving sprinkler device that is being patented. It is the subject of a business plan project with University of Nevada, Las Vegas College of Business Entrepreneurship students that won the 2012 Dominic Anthony Marrocco Southern Nevada Business Plan competition. The plan is also a semi-finalist in a San Diego State University competition.
