Offering a unique catering and event planning experience, fresh quality menus and amazing service at a reasonable price led to the creation of Masterpiece Cuisine. That was the goal of business partners Timothy Welc and Scott Mahan, who had been involved in food service, sales and business ventures, respectively, for years. Their dream became reality in 2007, and Masterpiece Cuisine has become hugely successful.
One of Clark County’s top caterers, Masterpiece Cuisine has received Five Star ratings on Google and Yelp.com, and received both Wedding Wire’s Bride’s Choice Award and TheKnot.com’s Best of Wedding for 2010, 2011 and 2012. The company’s clientele, billings and staff have continued to grow, and it’s now located in the Water Street District.
Welc, who worked in restaurants for 25 years, creates menus from scratch, fusing different styles together for a one-of-a-kind taste experience and using as many organic and local ingredients as possible.
“Our cuisine and events offer clients a total experience to ‘WOW’ their guests,” said Mahan, who handles Masterpiece Cuisine’s business side “The results have been amazing, and we’re pleased with all the great referrals we receive, particularly from brides during what can be an especially stressful time.”
Masterpiece Cuisine does all types of large and small events, including corporate functions, grand openings, weddings, fundraisers, galas and more. It also offers a Gourmet Express drop-off service, focusing on value without sacrificing quality with hand-crafted hors d’ oeuvres, salads, entrees and sides dishes made with quality ingredients. “We developed Gourmet Express for cost-conscious clients who still want good food and efficiency within a budget,” said Mahan. “We deliver and set up everything that is needed so clean up is easy, leaving you to have a great time.”
Mahan and Welc always wanted to own their own business. When they met in 2007, Welc had started working as a personal chef which led to catering and Masterpiece Cuisine. They started out of a house; and as business grew, they shared the kitchen of a local pub. When they learned about the availability of their Water Street location at Corley Plaza, they jumped at the chance to lease it. The 2,000-square-foot space came with new kitchen equipment as it was previously a restaurant, plus they liked the sense of community and peaceful, relaxed atmosphere of the area.
“We couldn’t believe our good fortune with our Water Street location and amenities,” said Mahan, adding that coordination with the City of Henderson Redevelopment Agency was smooth and helpful in working out the details. “Our kitchen and space gives us even more credibility and flexibility for events and meeting with clients.”
Since moving to Water Street District, the Masterpiece Cuisine team is enjoying getting involved with the community, participating in the various downtown festivals and joining the Water Street District Business Association and Henderson Chamber of Commerce.
