To view or buy great art or discuss the latest trends in art and art culture, visit the City Lights Art Gallery, located in the heart of Water Street District. The gallery is owned and operated by the non-profit City Lights Artists Co-op, a group of 60 local artists, and features collectible fine art by co-op members that is affordably priced. Many members’ work is collected by people throughout the United States and abroad.
“Much of the artwork in commercial galleries is priced out-of-reach. It’s too high-end for many people who want to collect art,” said Ed Klein, gallery director of the City Lights Art Gallery. “We change that equation. We feature outstanding art by great local artists, who are especially committed to Henderson. Gallery attendees and patrons find we’re very approachable and very affordable. They appreciate having access to collectible art. It’s a win-win for them and our artists.”
City Lights Art Gallery features an eclectic mix of original paintings, photography, sculpture and reproductions, plus note cards and other items in its gift shop. Artwork covers a wide range of subject matter and media. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the gallery is operated by a volunteer staff of members whose work is being shown at the gallery. There’s also a 10-member governing board.
City Lights Art Gallery does juried art shows each March and October, which are open to all Clark County artists, and participates in the annual Henderson Fine Arts Festival every Mother’s Day, in addition to other programs such as its “Fall Art Festival Lakeside” at Lake Las Vegas.
Co-op members offer art classes for adults, from beginners to those more advanced. Watercolor classes are on Tuesday and Saturday, and acrylic painting is on Saturday. Enrollment can be at anytime. The gallery also is working on an art program for kids.

Co-op members are involved with programs to help youth develop a love and appreciation for the arts. A special place in the gallery has been set aside for art displays by local high school students. Several exhibits are held throughout the year for them, and they’ve become very popular. The co-op also provides grants to high school art teachers for art supplies, and has started a college scholarship program to help high school art students.
City Lights Art Gallery opened in a Water Street storefront in 2003 and moved to its present 3,000-square-foot location on Army Street in 2007.
“We love being in Water Street District because we’re so close to the action and activities at City Hall, the library, Henderson Convention Center, and particularly the Henderson Department of Cultural Arts and Tourism who we work closely with on a number of projects,” said Klein. “It’s great to be on a first-name basis with everyone, especially those involved with the arts.” He added there are many arts-related activities in the area and other events in which City Lights members enjoy participating.
