Every great main street needs a quaint coffee shop with good coffee and better conversation. And the Water Street District has just that in Mocha Joe, where you can get that perfect “Cup ‘o Joe” while chatting with the owners or friends or even working remotely.
Owners Marcia and Mike Hopper always wanted a coffee shop, but they didn’t see it becoming a reality until they discovered Water Street. Mike wanted to relocate his advertising agency, SinCityMadMen, so he purchased 3,600 square feet of store-front retail and office space. In addition to accommodating the ad agency, Mike created executive suites to sub-lease to other small businesses and used the front 1,000 square feet to realize Marcia’s dream of owning a coffee shop. The ad agency helped to completely self-fund the coffee shop and was the mastermind behind the Mocha Joe brand, further proof of this couple’s entrepreneurial spirit.
Marcia and Mike fell in love with downtown Henderson, the people and the combination of historical town and new city vision.
“We love the small town feel where neighbors are friendly and support each other,” said Marcia. “The street has a good amount of foot traffic, so when we were designing the shop, we had numerous neighbors stop in to see how things were going and find out when we were going to open. We had a couple dozen neighborhood clients, and new friends, before we even opened our doors!”
Mocha Joe’s customers can enjoy a fresh “Cup ‘o Joe” brewed within days of being roasted locally in Boulder City or have an exotic flavored Chai Tea Latte. Marcia uses all fresh ingredients for her special mango and strawberry smoothies and creates fun soda drinks with flavored syrups and whip cream. The coffee bar even offers prepared sandwiches and pastries from local restaurants and bakeries and has free WiFi for its customers.
The myriad of small businesses that lie just behind the countertops of Mocha Joe include Mike’s advertising agency as well as an attorney’s office, a tax preparation service, an architect, and a travel agency. The coffee shop is an inviting entrance and lobby for these businesses, as well as a casual place to meet customers.
Mocha Joe has indoor and outdoor seating available and is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the weekends, with live music on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. and is available for events during the day or after closing.
